A Father’s Legacy; The Story of a Bloodline By Pastor Uche Onochie
Ministering: Pastor Uche Onochie
Topic: A Father’s Legacy; The Story of a Bloodline
Texts: Proverbs 4:1-7, I Chronicles 28:9
There is a story to every bloodline.
If you want to be successful then you prepare yourself for success. If you want to fail then you do nothing.
Legacy in modern times refer to estates, wealth, etc., but to his son Solomon, David left a legacy of reverence to God and wisdom. David sharpened the life of Solomon. Legacy is beyond wealth – it is in who you serve as a family.
Fathers need to constantly speak to their children, to train and position them for success. A child mirrors what is placed before him.
When your children ask you certain questions, do not push the questions away. Teach them through the scriptures. Let them know your source of strength and success. Let them observe your secret and your culture for success.
If you don’t establish a legacy, you won’t be able to pass it to anyone. If all you have is wealth alone then you’re still poor.
The making of Abraham was the making of a legacy.
Genesis chapters 11, 12, 13 –
Abraham became successful when he decided to follow God. It took 25 years after God promised him an heir before the child came – Just because you have the blessing does not mean there won’t be contention. Abraham hoped against all hope. (Romans 4:18). He believed and righteousness was credited to him (Romans 4:3).
The covenant was not for him alone but for his bloodline – his descendants (Genesis 15:1-5). The evidence of being under that covenant was the mark of circumcision.
Abraham and his descendants did not struggle with wealth but with barrenness. The devil fought God’s word to Abraham so as to discourage him. The promise over your life is usually your place of struggle. God named him the ‘Father of many nations’ yet he was struggling to have one son. When God gives a word the enemy always comes to counter it. The devil comes with encumbrances to make you forget the dream.
The devil doesn’t have any wealth to give to you. He can’t steal your blessing but he will attempt to frustrate you and make you give up. Once you’re frustrated and give up nobody else can help you. When you give up, God raises someone else. God can never be stranded.
Fathers should learn to cut covenants with God because after them, it becomes a legacy. God announced himself to Isaac and Jacob as “the God of your father…’
The problem with believers is that we do not keep track of our successes, we do not document it so it’s hard to pass it on to our children.
Abraham prayed until his wife had a son. He broke the yoke of barrenness.
Isaac fought his father’s battles of barrenness and his own son Jacob was very fruitful after him. There are some battles you should not fight because someone has fought that battle for you.
Share the covenant with your children.
Gen 26:1-6, 12-31
Isaac stayed true to the God of his father. He grew so rich that the Philistine King came to make a peace pact with him. It’s all about the covenant and raising the right altars.
The blessing is God, the gift is Jesus. The secret of the covenant is for your children to know your God. The summary of parenting is helping your children transit to adulthood .
Whatever you are right now is in your DNA. It doesn’t matter what/who you are now, the bloodline will shape you (e.g Jacob, Joseph). The covenant will not be silent. It speaks.
Jacob was a supplanter, serving his wicked Uncle Laban but in the fullness of time God gave him strategies for wealth and Laban’s wealth was transferred to him. He became a great nation. Laban also made a pact with Jacob. God changed his name to Israel just as he changed his grandfather’s name from Abram to Abraham.
Galatians 3;29 – We are descendants of Abraham because we belong to Christ.
Realign yourself and choose who you will serve.
God made a covenant with David and his descendants (II Samuel 7:12-16).
Let your children know your source of power (Zechariah 4:6, I Corinthians 2:4).
When there’s a testimony give the glory to God. Israel’s songs are filled with testimonies of the great deeds of the God of their fathers.
Leave your children with the gift of the Holy Spirit. Give them Christ, every other thing is a bonus.
Proverbs 16:3 – if you’re ready for God, he is ready for you.
Happy Fathers’ Day
