Finding Me By Pastor Lanre Oluseye

Finding Me By Pastor Lanre Oluseye

Ministering: Rev. Lanre Oluseye
Topic: Finding Me
Text: James 1:22-25

When you lose something, you don’t just lose the thing, you also lose what that thing was meant to do or provide for you. That is why it becomes more painful, frustrating and aggravating.

The worst thing to lose is yourself. Losing yourself doesn’t mean that you don’t know where you are (your physical location); it means you have forgotten who you are – that is, you have lost a version of yourself – what makes you you; who you know yourself to be.

Bad seasons can make you lose you. Suddenly it dawns on you; “This is not me!”

Life happens. Life will throw punches at you. Life will test your metal – what is on your inside. When life does what it does, it is possible to lose you, but whatever you do, please do not lose yourself.

Sometimes people chase things, people, money, etc. Their personalities evolve in the pursuit of whatever they’re chasing, and they don’t even realize when they start losing themselves because they are consumed in what they’re chasing.

A point must come in your life when you need to let people chase their stuff and decide that you would keep ‘you’ because if you have you, eventually you would get stuff. There’s a way to go with speed and not lose you. In 1 Kings 18:46, Elijah gathered up his garment (put himself together correctly) and outran Ahab who was in a chariot. You can decide not to lose character because of a position /condition in life that you desire.

You may not have lost yourself but you may lose VISION.
Sight sees today, vision sees tomorrow. Sight sees the bend, vision sees the end. Bad seasons can make you blind, causing you to relinquish something you used to hold very high.

People who have lost vision become cynical of others trying to get ahead in life.. Young people should be wary of ‘the arrogance of Youth’ because bad seasons can happen to anyone which can make them lose vision. Once you lose your vision, you’ve lost a very important part / version of yourself.

Bad patches can also make you lose VALUE – when it no longer bothers you that you dim your light so others can feel comfortable. Do not diminish your gift for anyone. In life, everyone runs their own race. Don’t sell yourself cheap and expect us to buy you expensive. Put value on your craft. Do not talk down on your gift. Do not feel inferior. Don’t reduce your value even if people think you do ‘too much’. When you lose value it ends in regrets.
It is also important that you have value for your spouse and other people around you, especially in front of others.

Bad seasons can also make you lose VIRTUE, turning you into a bad person doing what you otherwise would never have done. Don’t let your dark seasons make you lose your light. It is important who you talk to at ‘night’. John 3:2 -Nicodemus went to Jesus at night when he had deep questions. Don’t rationalize doing evil. Don’t let bad seasons change you.
Also, do not be quick to judge someone who has made a bad decision because of a bad season.

When you go through your dark seasons, don’t lose your vision, your value or your virtue.

James 1:22-25 – When you come into church and look into the mirror of the Word, you see your possibilities, your future , etc but after walking out of church, you forget that you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. In the Word you see who you should be but when you go outside you forget who you are supposed to be.

‘A child of God’ is not a title, it’s a lifestyle. It’s not enough to just come to church, you have to CONTINUE in the Word (James 1:25).

The power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead is available through the Holy Spirit to empower you to live the life you’re meant to live. (Romans 8:11). With the Holy Spirit working inside of you, you can recover from any loss.

No matter what you do, don’t forget the image of you that you saw in the Word.
Prayer: Lord, I want to be a doer of the work, not just a hearer only, that the real ‘me’ might show up. Holy Spirit help me find the real ‘me’. Amen.
