Topic: Faith and Courage
Text: Joshua 1:6-9
A lot of people desire to be great in life but life demands more than a desire. Good intentions alone are not enough to get you into the corridors of the great. You must be courageous in order to possess what God has given to you.
Matthew 14:27-29 – Peter walking on water – It is one thing to get a Word from God; it’s another thing to be courageous enough to step out of the boat. If you’ll ever do something significant it may have to be in the midst of a storm. You’ll never do anything great if you keep waiting for everything to be okay.
After David was anointed (I Samuel 16:10-13), he still had to fight to become king. You need courage to believe in tomorrow. You are not ordinary, you only need courage.
The armies of Israel were taunted by Goliath for 40 days until David showed up (I Samuel 17) – they were children of the covenant but without courage. You have a God but you need a heart.
If you don’t fight, you won’t win. Everything is available but not everything is accessible without a fight. All things are yours – but you need to take a step of courage to possess them. Without contention there’s no possession.
People with vision are hardly discouraged or deterred. Those who see ahead are not held down in the now. You have one life to live, live it to the fullest. Fulfil destiny.
Obedience to God’s Word calls for courage. It’s not enough to dream, wake up with courage. You need courage for God’s word to be fulfilled and accomplished in your life because God will never tell you to do something on your level. You will need courage to walk with God.
Joshua 1:9 – The effect of divine presence is impossible without a courageous heart. You have no idea what God can do until you take courageous steps in the direction He has given to you. Until you do what you can, God will never do what you can’t.
You can’t get into greatness without warfare. You can’t get a testimony without a test. Dare it, Go for it.
Exodus 14:15 – You don’t always have to explain to the people following you, talk to God. Be courageous enough to see what nobody else is seeing. Prepare for your day before it shows up.
Fight! For your future, your home, etc. It a good fight – you already won before you started. You’re not going to lose this fight. Fight!
James 4:7 (KJV) – Don’t play with the devil. Don’t give him a chance. He’s not playing with you; he came to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). Resist him.
Joshua 1:8 – Courage comes from the Word of God – constant speaking and meditation. Set reminders of the Word around you daily. Bring yourself and God to remembrance of what God has said. How much of the Word have you stored? When situations show up what do you respond with? All the wisdom you require is in the Word. As you stay with the word, the Spirit of the Word enters into you – the Word of God is Spirit and Life (John 6:63) and empowers you to make your way prosperous.
You (not God) will make your way prosperous (Joshua 1:8). There are things you are waiting on God to do, that God is waiting for you to make the move . When you move in faith, He meets you. God is so good, He doesn’t manipulate your decisions.
Romans 10:17 – It is the Word of God in your heart that births faith in your spirit.
Read the word. You will need courage when you will have to walk against the tide; to stand when nobody else believes in you; to stand when you’re being talked down on and talked about; to stand alone.
Your strength will not fail you in the day of adversity. Receive boldness, receive strength. Let courage rise within you in the name of Jesus.
