Topic: What Do You Want in 2026?
Texts: Psalm 90:12 (KJV), Proverbs 4:23 (KJV)
2026 is almost here!
Every year comes with aspirations and expectations, but each year delivers some things we do not desire, so we look forward to the next year with the determination to get it right.
The start of a new year is always greeted with great excitement, as though January 1st mystically makes everything okay. The new year, however, receives you the way you are, magnifying what you come into the year with. Two people can be in the same place and do the same things in the same year, but get different results. Every new year interrogates you, especially when you’re over 50.
Psalm 90:12 – This prayer does not ask for more days, but to learn to take time more seriously.
Ephesians 5:15-18 (KJV) – This is how you number your days. Stop living like tomorrow is guaranteed. Months are not cheap. Stop spending your life as if it doesn’t count.
Ephesians 5:18 – There’s no vacuum in life. The spiritual controls the physical. Whatever spirit you permit, determines your life.
I Corinthians 2:6,7, 10-12 (NKJV) – A lot of us have no idea of what God has laid up for us. In order to number our days we have to be under the Spirit of the living God so we can get to where we are going.
Proverbs 4:23 (KJV) – Your year will reflect the state of your heart. When you find wrong patterns recurring in your life, you ought to check what’s flowing out of your heart. A new year or age doesn’t change what’s inside a man. What changes the year for you is what you bring into it. The year will produce exactly what you give to it. It’s a waste of time to bind devils that your lack of discipline encourage. What are you carrying into 2026? What is flowing from your heart?

TRUTHS TO CONSIDER
1. God does not respond to the calendar but to the condition of your heart. What you’re carrying, is more important than what you’re expecting. The Israelites did not get to the promised land on the scheduled time of 40 days because of the posture of their hearts. Even though their location changed, they did not change the condition of their hearts (Hebrews 3:10,11,18,19 (KJV)). They carried fear into opportunity, Egypt into freedom, and unbelief into the promise. The Promise was ready, but they were not. Are you ready? Do not enter into 2026 with fear or unbelief. Prayer is not a substitute for the position/posture of your heart. You must have a disciplined life to match what you desire. God is not interested in your request, but in your readiness. He’s not interested in your word but in your ways/character. Psalm 51:6 (KJV) – God is looking for truth/honesty in your inward parts. He’s not interested in performance but in what is happening inside your heart. Alignment with wisdom happens on the inside. Guard your heart!
2. You carry something into the new season, whether you realize it or not. There’s no vacuum in life. Something – positive or negative – must fill that space. Unbelief followed the Israelites out of Egypt. They left Egypt physically, but not emotionally. Their hearts were not purged and God was displeased with them. (I Corinthians 10:5 (KJV)). It’s not what you’re going through that makes you a bad person, but how your mind processes what you’re going through, and how you react to it.
Get Rid of the Following In 2026:
A. Bitterness/Offence. Hebrews 12:15 (KJV) – Bitterness defiles you and slows you down. It brings recurring negative circumstances into your life. It also leads to sickness.
B. Fear disguised as wisdom/caution. The Israelites were afraid to go into the land God promised them and spent 40 years waiting to enter (Numbers 13,14). They missed their season because they were crippled by fear. Fear is subtly invisible; it affects you without you realizing it and inhibits you from responding to seasons in your life. Numbers 14:9 (KJV), Hebrews 10:38 – Fear is rebellion against God. 2 Timothy 1:7, Ephesians 5:18 – whatever spirit you choose will govern your actions.
C. Pride masked in confidence, independence and strength. The posture of wealth and success is humility. This is the posture that pleases God. James 4:6 (KJV) – If God resists you everything around you will fight against you. God broke Jacob and he limped all his life. (Genesis 32:24-25,31) There must be something that makes you depend on God. Paul had a thorn in his flesh (II Corinthians 12:7-10). When you are weak, God is strong for you.
D. Laziness justified with ‘waiting on God’. If you do nothing, God does nothing. Proverbs 18:9 (KJV) – laziness leads to wasted opportunities.
E. Disobedience clothed with prayer. Take the bold step to do what God has instructed rather than spending time on prayer inspired by fear and disobedience. Obedience is better than sacrifice. (I Samuel 15:22).

3. What you carry may be invisible but it continues to speak whether you believe it or not. It is always active.
4. Prayer does not replace alignment.
5. What you carry determines what you will get.
Joshua 3:5 (KJV) – Sanctify yourself for what you want to see in 2026. Without sanctification there will be no wonders. Matthew 6:33 (KJV) – Align yourself in God’s kingdom. Without righteousness (the right posture of your heart), there cannot be addition. 2026 is the year to watch what goes into your heart.
DECLARATION
This year will not change me, I will change before the year ends.
This season will not define me, I will define my season.
I refuse to carry yesterday’s baggage into tomorrow’s promise.
I enter 2026 aligned, healed, disciplined and cautious.
Because I carry the right things, the year will respond correctly to me in Jesus name. Amen.
