Topic: Christ is my Advantage
Text: Colossians 2:9,10 (NKJV)
Everything that makes God God is present in Christ – nothing missing, nothing left out (John 14:9).
Christ is not a junior God. He’s equally God and equally powerful.
You are COMPLETE in Christ – Honour the Word of God and accept You everything that He calls you and says that you are. Have an understanding of your identity in Christ and all that is available to you.
You are complete in Christ who is the Head of all principalities and powers. There’s no need to run helter-skelter when faced with the appearance of works of darkness, and magnify the devil in the process. God takes no glory in making things difficult for his children. Principalities and powers have a higher power they bow to. (Eg. Baal – I Kings 18:22-40, Dagon – I Samuel 5:1-4).
Deep spiritual encounters and experiences are great because they build our faith but we should not camp around them.
Every spiritual encounter has to birth a corresponding result in our day-to-day experiences. Every time the Spirit of God moved upon anyone in the Bible, it was to accomplish something in the physical that glorifies God; eg. Samson, Jesus (Luke 3:21-23).
Be careful not to get distracted by the spectacular – Elisha focused on getting Elijah’s mantle despite the fire and the whirlwind (II Kings 2:10-13). What has all your spiritual experiences produced?
Christ is your advantage! Our spiritual experiences must align with our spiritual discipline. God blesses us through the communication of Grace, and Grace is communicated by our spiritual experiences.
Genesis 22:17 – We are all children of Abraham but some will be as the sand on the seashore while others as the stars in the sky. The deciding factor is whether you have maximized your identity in Christ or not. Saving Grace saves us all but enabling Grace makes the difference. As you grow in grace, grace is multiplied, and results are amplified. You can continue doing the same thing but Grace changes the result. Grace makes easy what looks hard.
How does Grace grow?
– II Peter 1:2 (NKJV) – Grace is imparted by the knowledge of God.
– James 4:6 (NKJV) – More Grace is given to the humble.
Prayers
Hebrews 4:16 – Father I come boldly to the throne of Grace, to obtain mercy and find grace to help in the time of need.
II Peter 1:2 – May Grace be multiplied to me in every area of my life.
I Corinthians 15:10 – We will not labour without grace. Amen.
